STUDENTS AND PARENTS
Great overview of CTE: Produced by SD Department of Education
CTE and Work-Based Learning (WBL) provides students with opportunities for instruction in both academic and occupational skills, career exploration, and guidance in identifying employment and educational goals. Students have the opportunity to connect what they learn in school with work-site application to enable a smooth transition into the workforce and/or education beyond high school. How to be CTE Successful
1. Find the path!
2. Follow the path!
3. Live the path!
1. Find the path!
a. Explore various programs of study-what are your choices? Do you understand the programs of study and the possible career pathways?
b. Commit to the program of study that best fits you and your goals- have you taken a self-assessment? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses?
2. Follow the path!
a. Take courses in the right order-don't take courses out of order and don't skip a course. When you do this you miss important academic materials and health and safety lessons. Always start with the first course no matter your grade level.
b. Earn college credits-articulation agreements in various programs of study allow students to earn college credits while in high school. The credits can transfer to the college you attend and they are a lot cheaper here at Albany High School.
3. Live the path!
a. Take the technical assessment-a technical assessment is an industry-developed assessment consisting of written examination(s), student project(s) and student demonstration(s) of technical skills to measure proficiency in a specific technical field through the application of national standards in such technical field. Earns an extra endorsement on diploma.
b. Plan your next steps-what will you do upon graduation and beyond?
